Windows Home Server has a pretty amazing way to view backups. It is extremely simple to find a file from a past backup via the WHS Console.
To look at the backups of a particular machine, go to the Windows Home Server Console, Computers & Backups tab. Highlight the comptuer you're interested in and click the View Backups button on the toolbar at the top. You can also right-click the computer and click View Backups from the context menu.
Doing so brings up this window:

From here you can see details on a particular backup:

And peeking into those backups to grab a Word Document you accidentally deleted from your local computer is easy... just click Open.
What happens next is where the magic is. Windows Home Server installs a "device" on your local system with the backup data appearing as a drive. This allows you to browse, copy, paste, etc easily and intuitively. It is an extremely nice way to give you access to a complete backup of your machine.

After a short opening process, you will have access to your backup.

Your taskbar will show an information bubble like the one above. This is similar to the bubble you might see when you've connected a USB memory stick or a digital camera. Windows sees this device much in the same way. You will not have to reboot, and in fact, shouldn't.

As you can see in the screenshot below, you can now look through your files as if they were on any other drive you might have:
